DAILY READINGS: Nehemiah 8; Zechariah 4; Revelation 13

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Isaiah 1:18a

Come unto me…and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. Luke 14:17

Three invitations are given by the Lord personally and sent to you. The first concerns our sins, though like scarlet, they can be as white as snow. The second call is to rest. We are without peace until we find rest in Christ. The third invitation is in parable form. It’s an invitation to a great supper—God’s great salvation by His grace. All is prepared and ready for you. Don’t pass up God’s gracious invitations given in His Word. —Rex Trogdon

Out of my bondage, sorrow, and night, Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into Thy freedom, gladness, and light, Jesus, I come to Thee. —W. Sleeper

DAILY READINGS: Nehemiah 7; Zechariah 2-3; Revelation 12

Then went king David in, and sat before the LORD, and he said, Who am I, O Lord GOD? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto? 2 Samuel 7:18

What a wonderful prayer of thanksgiving to start every new day. Whoever we are, whatever we have achieved is solely due to the goodness and grace of God. Pride is a dreadful sin, and the Christian should be in a perpetual state of humility. We deserve absolutely nothing!—Brian Russell

With grateful hearts the past we own,
The future, all to us unknown;
We to Thy guardian care commit,
And peaceful leave before Thy feet. —P. Dodderidge

DAILY READINGS: Nehemiah 6; Zechariah 1; Revelation 11

And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies. Numbers 10:9

The blowing of the silver trumpets was not only to marshal Israel for war, but it was also an appeal to the Lord to save them from their enemies. When the day of grace commenced, the trumpets were blown against the powers of darkness. Paul exhorts us to, “Endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please Him who hath chosen him to be a soldier,” (2 Tim. 2:3-4). Lord, help in the battle.—R. Surgenor

Fight the good fight with all thy might;
Christ is thy strength, and Christ thy right. —John S. B. Monsell

DAILY READINGS: Nehemiah 5; Haggai 2; Revelation 10

Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? Behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto My sorrow. Lamentations 1:12

The sorrows of this suffering Man permeated His lovely life. There was the sorrow of the Incarnation; to leave His home and become a man was itself a sorrow. The sorrow of Identification; to be identified with beings in the universe who were moral criminals. He suffered the sorrow of Compassion; having all power to heal and to comfort, yet on so many occasions to withold that power, for His hour was not yet. The sorrows of rejection, humiliation, and ultimately isolation, all gathered upon that tender soul, so that of all the experiences of life, it was sorrow that most identified His humanity. —J. B. N.

DAILY READINGS: Nehemiah 4; Haggai 1; Revelation 9

Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father. 1 Thessalonians 1:3

Faith, hope, and love are the cardinal virtues of the Christian life, and they are the three greatest evidences of salvation. Positively, genuine faith leads to works for our Lord (Eph. 2:8-10); love publicly evidences salvation (Rom. 5:5); and hope expresses an alert expectation of Christ’s return (1 Thess. 1:10). Negatively, without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb. 11:6), we are without hope if without Christ (Eph. 2:12), and if anyone loves not the Lord Jesus he is accursed (1 Cor. 16:22). —W. Ross Rainey

Faith, and hope, and love, a glorious threefold cord;
Virtues from above, through the goodness of the Lord. —W. R. R.

DAILY READINGS: Nehemiah 3; Daniel 12; Revelation 8

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. John 3:36

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3

What exciting words revealing to us Jesus Christ, the Source and Giver of eternal life! Amazing grace available for everyone irrespective of race, culture, or language! It cannot be earned or attained by merit. It is gained only by faith, receiving the gift He has provided through His death on the cross. Will you become the possessor of eternal life today? —Jim Paul

Whoever receiveth the crucified one, whoever believeth on God’s only Son,
A free and a perfect salvation shall have, for He is abundantly able to save.—E. A. Hoffman

DAILY READINGS: Nehemiah 1-2; Daniel 11:21-45; Revelation 7

And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13

Being an elder is often not only a thankless job, but a criticized one. We would do well instead to appreciate their diligent labour. Hours spent in prayer, visitation and counsel. Burdens shared, tears shed, the will of God sought. All of this and more alongside the trials and tribulations of their own lives. Take a moment to be thankful for your elders. Pray for them, encourage them, and love them. —C. Oriold

O seek the Lord in prayer and fall down at Christ’s feet,
As two or three are gathered there, entreaties shall Christ meet!—John A. Dellas

DAILY READINGS: Ezra 10; Daniel 11:1-20; Revelation 6

Thus saith the LORD, Ye have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak. 2 Chronicles 12:5b

So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house; he took [everything]. 2 Chronicles 12:9a

When Rehoboam lost his sense of frailty before Almighty God, he rebelled and forsook the law of the Lord. Sin is deceitful and promises everything but it only ever takes away. Everything was taken away from Rehoboam because of his rebellion. Allowing sin into our lives will rob us of the enjoyment of all that God has given to us in Christ and it can destroy the temporal blessings He has given to us as well.—B. Crawford

If you would come after Me, to your self say no;
Take your cross up daily; follow Me alone. —S. H. Peterson

DAILY READINGS: Ezra 9; Daniel 10; Revelation 5

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Psalms 133:1

In childhood, the medicine administered by mother may have been good, but was seldom pleasant. In those days, our chosen confectionery was pleasant, though our elders thought it not good! Today, as maturing Christians, are we fully committed to that which is both good and pleasant—harmonious relationships with fellow-believers? “Let there be no strife…for we be brethren,” (Gen 13:8). —George Hall

We would remember we are one,
With every saint who loves Thy name:
United to Thee on the throne,
Our life, our hope, our Lord, the same! —James G. Deck
