DAILY READINGS: Exodus 22:1-23:9; Psalms 64:1 -65:13; Acts 12:1-25

In those days came John the Baptist…saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matthew 3:1-2

John’s preaching concerned repentance and a subsequent baptism to prove that his “converts” meant what they said. John was an unusual man with no use for anything fine or fancy; a loner who grew up in the desert. John didn’t mince matters when he saw the Pharisees and Sadducees come to be baptised. He called them serpents and demanded that they repent too. We too, should have the fruit of repentance in our lives. —G. Frear

There is a river, that flows from deep within;
There is a fountain, that frees the soul from sin;
Come to this water, there is a vast supply;
There is a river, that never shall run dry. —D. & M. Sapp

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 21:1-36; Psalms 62:1-63:11; Acts 11:19-30

Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. Psalm 119:18

We have eyes but do we see? The physical eyes of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus were open but their spiritual “eyes were holden that they should not know him” (Luke 24:16). Our eyes may be open to
read God’s Word, but we fail to grasp the personal messages God is trying to pass on to us. We come away none the better because we fail to see. If this is so, pray David’s prayer above, and start all over again. —K. C. Ung

Open my eyes, that I may see,
Glimpses of truth, Thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key,
That shall unclasp and set me free. —Clara H. Scott

DAILY READINGS: Exodus 20:1-26; Psalms 60-61; Acts 11:1-18

Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. Acts 19:19

A drug dealer became a Christian. His marijuana was ready to harvest. Although of considerable monetary value he burnt his entire crop. Sadly today there are Christians who are involved in pornography, alcohol, wrong friendships and business deals, to name a few. What are you hanging on to that needs getting rid of? Decide today that with God’s help you will put things right. —Janet Fleming

God will not be mocked for we reap what we sow,
The seeds we are planting are what we will grow.
Get rid of wrong habits, of sin and misdeeds,
Or soon you will harvest a garden of weeds. —Janet Fleming
