DAILY READINGS: Gen. 47:28-48:22; Psalms 26:1-27:14; Matt. 26:57-75

And the nations of them that are saved shall walk in the light of it [heaven’s capital city]. Revelation 21:24, KJV

Here we find, in words exceptionally simple, the sole qualification for a human being to be allowed into heaven. No mention here of religion, church, sect, creed, denomination, baptism, confession, good works, charity, philanthropy, character, reputation, name, occupation, or lifestyle. Simply, “saved.” Friend, are you saved? If your answer is “No,” don’t count on being in heaven. But if you, a lost and guilty sinner, accept Christ’s sacrificial work on the cross as having been finished for you, the Bible says you will be “saved” (Acts 16:31-32). —J. Lindsay Parks

Believe it, O sinner, believe it! Receive the glad message—it’s true;
Trust now in the crucified Saviour, salvation He offers to you.

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 46-47:27; Psalm 25:1-22; Matt. 26:31-56

A time to be born, and a time to die. Ecclesiastes 3:2, KJV

There was a time when your life began and you grew in your mother’s womb. You were born and eventually grew into adulthood. Life was busy and happy. But death is coming; it is as sure as birth. There will come a time when you must leave this life. Are you ready? How have you prepared? Are you sure you are saved and ready to face God? If not, repent of your sins and turn to Christ in simple faith and receive Him. He died to pay the penalty for your sin. If you are saved, live a wise and holy life, ready to meet your Lord. Your life will be judged. Do not waste it. —Donald L. Norbie

My faith has found a resting place, not in device nor creed,
I trust the ever living One, His wounds for me shall plead.

Genesis 46:1-47:27; Psalm 25:1-22; Matthew 26:31-56

Christ died for us … Romans 5:8b

A crescendo is a musical technique that can be used to great effect, as the notes soar through rising levels of intensity to reach a magnificent high point. There is a much different and disheartening crescendo of thought in the passage our verse is from (Rom. 5:6-11). We discover here, that in our fallen state, we were without strength; we were ungodly; we were sinners; we were enemies of God. It is not a crescendo anyone could rejoice in. But through grace, we can lift our hearts and voices in a crescendo of worship and remembrance today, because in spite of all these
marks against us, Christ died for us. —S. McEachern

To Calvary Lord, in Spirit now, our weary souls repair,
To dwell upon Thy dying love, and taste its sweetness there. —E. Denny

Genesis 45:1-28; Psalms 23:1-24:10; Matthew 26:1-30

Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, … Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, … “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me.” Luke 4:1, 14a, 18a NKJV

We see the fullness of the Spirit through our Lord’s life. The great Three-in-One is a perfect unity. His walk was led by the Spirit; His works were empowered by the Spirit; and His words were given by the Spirit. He was not given the Spirit by measure (John 3:34), but the fullness of the Godhead dwelt in Him (Col. 2:9). —Rex Trogdon

Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name,
in earth, and sky, and sea;
Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and Mighty!
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity! —Reginald Heber

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 45; Psalms 23:1-24:10; Matt. 26:1-30

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20

The spiritually lukewarm church had put the Lord outside. How very much like the religious system in our world today. Yet, the Lord stands and knocks on the door of the individual’s heart. He calls with His voice, speaking gracious words to gain entrance. When the heart’s door is opened, He comes in as a guest saying, “I…will eat with him.” Soon, this guest becomes the host, “and he with me.” Are you feasting with Him? —Rex Trogdon

What food luxurious loads the board, When, at His table, sits the
Lord! The wine how rich, the bread how sweet, When Jesus deigns
the guests to meet. —C. H. Spurgeon

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 44; Psalm 22:1-31; Matt. 25:31-46

Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her. John 8:7

One day, prior to an open-air meeting in which John Wesley was scheduled to preach, a troublemaker secretly determined to pelt him with stones. When the text at the head of this page was announced, the astonished would-be-disrupter dared not throw a rock. God’s Word is powerful (Hebrews 4:12-13) and reveals men’s hearts. The only safe course is to believe the Lord Jesus who says “Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other” (Isaiah 45:22). —K. R. Keyser

As strangers then to God we lived, filled with enmity and fear;
Our souls from death He has reprieved, love revealed and brought
us near. —G. W. Fraser

Genesis 44:1-34; Psalm 22:1-31; Matthew 25:31-46

Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was. Exodus 20:21
And I will give thee the treasures of darkness. Isaiah 45:3

At times we experience tragedy in our lives, the loss of a loved one in a car accident; the death of a child. But God says there are treasures in these dark times. More importantly, God’s glorious presence is with us in the thick darkness. Don’t fear the darkness, there is more than one lesson to be learned here — treasures, plural not singular. —K. W.

Light after darkness, gain after loss,
Strength after weakness, crown after cross;
Sweet after bitter, hope after fears,
Home after wand’ring, praise after tears. —Frances R. Havergal

Genesis 43:1-34; Psalms 20:1-21:13; Matthew 25:1-30

Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer (Stone of Help), saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.” 1 Samuel 7:12 NKJV

Samuel established a landmark for Israel to remind them of the great victory the Lord gave in re-capturing the ark of God, the visible representation of His presence with them (1 Sam. 4:1–11). “The Stone of Help” was a continual reminder for present and future generations of God’s goodness. Throughout life we too experience mountain tops and valleys, victories, and defeats, things seen and unseen. As we reflect back, may we raise an “Ebenezer” to the Lord for His faithfulness. —Jim Comte

DAILY READINGS: Gen. 43; Psalms 20:1-21:13; Matt. 25:1-30

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life. John 5:24, KJV

The “everlasting life” spoken of in our text refers to life that is rich, real, radiant, and running over. Note, this life is a present and eternal possession as conveyed by the word “hath.” When Charles H. Spurgeon preached on John 5:24, he shut his fist up tight as he pronounced the word “hath” and said, “H-A-T-H spells got it, and I’ve got it!” Have you by faith laid hold of everlasting life? —W. Ross Rainey

Though all unworthy, yet I will not doubt,
For him that cometh, He will not cast out;
“He that believeth,” O, the good news shout,
“Hath everlasting life!” —James McGranahan

Genesis 41:50-42:38; Psalm 19:1-14; Matthew 24:29-51

How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Hebrews 9:14 NKJV

Forgiveness comes only through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Sadly today, even redeemed believers have begun to depreciate this essential element of our redemption. Some say “It is only important that He died for us”. This is diminishing what He has done for us. Without the shed blood we would still be lost in our sins. —Sam Thorpe

What can wash away my sins,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus…
Nothing can for sin atone,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus. —Robert Lowry
