Description
An Unknown Road
By: Douglas & Marjorie Howell
This book is a graphic record of life in the service of God in changing and turbulent circumstances. Through a series of pen pictures and fascinating narrative, we are taken first from wartime Britain to Abadan and India on a crowded troopship. The story then follows the Howells’ missionary service as it began in Jerusalem in the momentous days of 1946 just prior to the creation of the state of Israel. Along with thousands of unsettled Palestinian refugees, the Howells moved into the country of Jordan in 1948 and for the next thirty years served the Lord and His people against the backdrop of a very troubled Middle East and a hostile Islamic culture.
The Suez crisis of 1956 prompted a move to Lebanon where they commenced and expanded an effective literature ministry. Finally in 1976, the Lebanese civil war led to similar service in France amongst North African Arabs until health problems caused a return to Britain and service in the homeland. The landscapes and the atmosphere of all these different places are skillfully brought to life; the trials and triumphs of these years are faithfully documented. The faithfulness of God is traced through every endeavour.
